Senior Thermal Process Engineer

Turnkey Distillation Systems and Mass Transfer Solutions

Fachleute mit Know-how

We provide comprehensive distillation solutions for the chemical processing industry, designing and delivering fully automated, turnkey distillation systems (from process design through fabrication, controls integration, and commissioning). We also manufacture and supply a leading portfolio of distillation internals and packing materials, helping customers achieve higher capacity, lower pressure drop, improved separations, and superior mass transfer efficiency.

Senior Thermal Process Engineer – Turnkey Distillation Systems and Mass Transfer Solutions

in full time

Role Summary

The Senior Thermal Process Engineer is a technical leader responsible for end-to-end distillation process solutions, from customer discovery and process development through detailed design, automation strategy, delivery, startup, and performance validation. This role blends deep distillation engineering with mass transfer and internals/packing expertise to develop and optimize packaged, automated distillation systems and to recommend packing/internals that maximize separation performance and energy efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities shall be team leadership focused, but successful candidate shall be willing and capable to offer hands-on support as needed.

Turnkey distillation solution design (end-to-end)

  • Lead technical development of turnkey distillation systems including column configuration, heat exchange network, utilities, instrumentation, automation philosophy and overall process safety design.
  • Translate customer requirements into deliverables: Basis of control and system design, Heat and Mass Balances, Process Flow Diagrams.
  • Support mechanical and electrical/control teams on layout and constructability.
  • Model, design, optimize and validate thermal processes
  • Define and validate performance metrics

Automation and integrated control strategy

  • Guide the definition of functional requirements for automated distillation systems including control sequences, recipe management, interlocks, etc.

  • Oversee FAT/SAT support and onsite commissioning planning.

Mass transfer, internals and packing materials

  • Serve as a technical authority on mass transfer and thermodynamics.
  • Guide the selection or design of packing/internals to maximize performance/efficiency

Customer-facing technical leadership and proposals

  • Participate in customer project calls and site visits to define scope and objectives.
  • Support proposal development for new projects.
  • Assist with debottlenecking and efficiency improvement recommendations for existing systems.

Safety, compliance and quality

  • Participate in PHA/HAZOP/LOPA, MOC support, and safe design reviews
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes/standards and customer EHS requirements.
  • Review and approve necessary documentation for customer handoff

Engineering Leadership

  • Mentor junior engineers; establish repeatable engineering standards and lessons learned for turnkey designs and packing applications.

Your Profile

  • BS in Chemical/Process Engineering or Thermodynamics (MS preferred).
  • 7–12+ years in process engineering with strong concentration in distillation/thermal separations
  • Demonstrated working knowledge/expertise in:
    • Thermodynamics
    • Distillation fundamentals and mass transfer principles helpful
    • Process design including column hydraulics, control theories and utility integrations
  • Experience supporting customer-facing engineering (scope definition, proposal support, technical presentations) and/or packaged systems delivery.
  • Microsoft Windows and Office tools
  • Knowledge of Explosion Proof regulations and related system design principles a plus
  • PE license a plus.
  • Experience with Aspen Plus / Aspen HYSYS / ChemCAD / ProMax a plus
